1. Who do you know in Bat Country that is willing to vouch you into the corp?  Having a vouch does not guarantee entry, but without a vouch you will not be able to join us.  Why do you believe that Endie decided to poach you?

My vouch is Schlampa, whom I’ve flown with for nearly six months in our closed-npsi blops and small gang group, Castle Poitot. I’ve jumped to his cynos, he’s jumped to my cynos. We’ve stood together as the Goon died around us. I think Endie wants to poach me because I’ve shown a consistent record of undocking and not being a bad, and maybe at some point I could develop into someone who is actually decent.

4. How old are you, and what timezone do you mainly play in?  What languages do you speak?

I am 35 and play in the early and late USTZ on the weekdays, and all TZ’s on the weekends. I am a native American English speaker, and can communicate to varying degrees of success in other English dialects.

5. When you log into Eve Online, what do you enjoy doing?  What motivates you to log in more?  Describe your perfect evening in Eve.

I like forming up strong gangs in small numbers with people I trust know their business and don’t need to ask a million questions and take 1.5 hours just to hit the undock button. I like taking these gangs straight into the heart of darkness to frag bads and sometimes goods against the odds. I don’t like fighting without some kind of edge. The best is when you know you have the advantage but the other guys don’t. My perfect evening in Eve would be some light free form small gang early with the buds patrolling around staging, then a pants on black ops or bomber fleet in some prearranged target region with a decent number of people, followed by an after-hours pvp lounge with serious pants-on small ganging or high risk blops drops. Sometime in the middle of this, I’d get pinged to log in a dread and kill a super somewhere.

6. For how long would you say that you play Eve each week?

I play Eve probably 20-40 hours a week. It is my primary (only) hobby.

7. For how long have you played Eve Online, Iceland's premiere internet spaceship simulator?  Post a brief biography of your Eve Online career, being sure to tell us about the good times, the bad times, the indescribable highs and the horrifying lows.

I started playing Eve in July 2015 when PCU had hit absolute rock bottom and nobody knew anything about Citadel, as a test to see if I could get Wine running properly on a somewhat underpowered Linux laptop. Once I realized I could actually run Eve, I started to look seriously into the game. I spent a week doing the tutorial missions and read absolutely everything I could possibly Google about the game, and started listening to Eve podcasts. I fell in love with everything I learned, and having come out of a rather draining period of my life, decided this was a good way to blow off some steam and work on something that had progression but no real end. This was before people got told to simply go to Horde or Karma or Test, people at this time who were serious about Eve actually went to Eve University, or so I was told at the time, which is where I started out. I had my first PvP experience that generated a killmail getting blown up in a bubble in an Atron with no MWD by SMA, https://zkillboard.com/kill/48211377/. (My first actual PvP experience was undocking a Nereus with a billion isk worth of tags from Jita and surviving several gank attempts… I had researched the fit and always fit my ships properly even if I was going to be dumb).

I was completely hooked and spent all my time in Eve going on Eve Uni fleets and meeting PvPers who would do guest fleets and lectures. The first thing that REALLY got me though, was doing black ops. My first black ops experience was with a guest fleet done by DNSBLACK, the most memorable parts of which were the decidedly awful links posted in fleet and teamspeak. I didn’t really get a sense of what it was “to be good” until I started dropping with Castle Poitot in Branch against FCON. My first weekend out, we got 10 billion worth of CFC. This absolutely blew my mind as a new player, and I decided around that time, if I was going to play Eve, I wasn’t going to be a bad about it. So, somewhat ironically, I apped to Rote Kapelle, and got in.

Rote’s a thoroughly mixed bag with a lot of history I know, but for me personally, it was a wonderful growth experience as a pilot surrounded by people who wanted to talk a long streak all day about Eve, even if they didn’t care to undock much. I absorbed everything I could. As an alliance, Rote decided to take sov in Querious about that time, so I lived for a while as a fully-fledged nullsec citizen. I ratted, I pvped in staging, I blops my neighbors, I sov wanded, I lightly rp’ed like we cared about space. It was pretty great… until it wasn’t. Broski + friends, putting the issue of their acute toxicity aside, demonstrated that a handful of competent people can run rings around and really ruin the experience for a mass of not particularly competent people. I got mad about it, I sperged on Reddit. Then after a couple months we decided it wasn’t worth it and left, but the bad blood never really settled down. I vowed about that time to never invest myself in sov ever again because it’s the root of so many problems really, if your goal is to harvest good content in Eve. There’s not a lot to say about the period between when Rote left Querious and when I left Rote, other than to say I learned to play Eve without caring much about affiliation, only caring about the guys undocked next to me and in TS3, regardless of their banner. Castle Poitot conducted a long campaign against Pandemic Horde, where I really learned how to be a good bomber pilot and black ops hunter, operating under threat. Horde was often impressively responsive and we paid for mistakes. I ground hisec industry making t2 fighters and managed to save enough to play Eve for almost a year with only a little additional income here and there.

Around the time Rote moved to Great Wildlands, I realized my time in that alliance needed to come to an end. I wasn’t ever going to be more than a Rote line member and that prospect made me sad. My plan was to commit fully to Castle Poitot blops and small gang and basically be a space gypsy in joke corps and alliances, but I was approached by the executor and MILDIR of Digital Vendetta, an alliance that grew out of an alt corp I was in on an alt in Eve Uni called Pro Dive Shop. For the other dudes in Uni/PDS, their plan was to make that their main corp and find a place to take sov and build an alliance; I wanted to do nothing but pvp so I dropped my alt corp directorship when I left Eve Uni. Well a year or so later, they had made good on their plans and were looking to call back people they knew to help build their pvp programs. I gave it a shot, coming into the alliance as a senior FC. I put together an AT team from scratch almost entirely on my own that lost to Purple Helmeted Warriors in the finals of the qualifiers (a decent outcome and one I was happy with), I led a few gangs, I ratted in a carrier, I defended a Raitaru.

I hated it. As much as they were good people, and the guys wanted to try, I am not a natural FC or Eve organizer. I do not enjoy leading people who need to be taught every step of the way, and furthermore need to unlearn bad things they’ve learned elsewhere. I stopped playing Eve the way I had used to. A lot of this was AT burnout, but I knew I had to leave or I would actually quit Eve. The pressure to login to Eve and do something that wasn’t getting frags at the level I was used to just left me no desire to play. There was also the slowly creeping realization that I was an Admiral in the Romanian Navy (the Drone Control Unit is by anyone’s reckoning the “b-team”), and I learned enough about the Drones to know I don’t really want a part of that because what they’re offering isn’t something I would ever want. So, I left and went to Brand Newbros in Test on a lark (they have a cool Discord), and now The Scope, and I’ve spent the past couple months maximizing my time undocked with the people whom I enjoy flying with, two of whom are now in BAT, which has led me to write this application!

8. How do you make ISK?  If you need to buy a bunch of ships when you join PL, how will you afford that?

The majority of my wealth in Eve has come from buying PLEX from CCP and selling it for isk, with some ratting and industry income as well. I have enough isk at this time to buy fleet ships, capitals for all my pilots, and am setting up level 5 missioning.

9. Why do you want to join Bat Country?  Why are you leaving your current home?

I left my last real alliance, Digital Vendetta, because of leadership burnout and lack of access to the game play I wanted, as well as heaps of additional responsibilities I want no part of at all. I also have a sneaking suspicion that I was the most knowledgeable pvper in the house, and that’s a scary feeling I didn’t enjoy. I want to join BAT because this is where my friends are, and because literally everything I have heard about BAT makes it seem 10/10 amazing and exactly the kind of chill corp I want to be a part of. Access to the pilots, content, and resources of Pandemic Legion is of course a big bonus, and I really look forward to being in a place where almost everyone knows a lot more than I do, I love asking questions of people with experience who know their business.

10. Post two kills that you are particularly proud of or happy with.  Explain why.

https://zkillboard.com/kill/52792021/ I’m particularly proud of this kill because this nerd right here got keres’ed so hard in his fancy 1337pvper Keres fit and I was flying a relatively normal Keres fit. His dreams of farming PFR got damped a bit on that day.

https://zkillboard.com/kill/62694089/ I’m also proud of this kill because I think it’s a good example of a frag that never should have happened and only did because our gang totally out flew the upshipped pilot. We were in disbelief that we got him without losing a single ship.

11. Post a favourite fit for a ship you like to fly.  Explain why, and briefly describe an occasion on which you used it.

I have done most of my small gang work that wasn’t in a Keres in this fit:

There's a lot of people who are totally unfamiliar with what a Nospray is capable of, and this fit in particular takes people by surprise. In addition to keeping up with Scythe Fleets and command dessies, and aligning under 3s (with cheap implants), it’s a grid-wide anti-support beast capable of dropping 400 dps worth of RLML from 80km, and it can brawl out just about any other kiting cruiser or T3D, common predators of anti-support cruisers, with the web and dual medium neuts. The flexibility to kite at 60km for a fight and then the speed and agility to dive for a play on an isolated cruiser or dessie makes for a highly dynamic combination that I stuck with even though I could have been flying an Orthrus. I also enjoy the fact that almost no one focuses down Nosprays on grid, so I can actually do my job effectively and not have to run for my life every minute because everyone wants to kill the Orthruses and Cynabals instead. I’ve taken fights like this in Nosprays more times than I can remember but this pretty typical of what would happen: https://zkillboard.com/related/30000589/201703110600/

The majority of my small gang kills are in a Keres, but there’s really only one fit with various trim levels that’s any good so I thought answering with that would be boring.

12. You are part of an AHAC fleet which gets bombed mid-fight.  Your shields are removed and you take 5% armour damage.  You, along with half of the fleet, immediately panic and broadcast for repairs.  You are called out by a notorious troller of bad players on fleet comms and several others join in, suggesting that you should be kicked from the corp and that the corp should then be kicked for harbouring you.  How do you respond?  What do you do?

Trolling was a way of life in Rote, I’m used to it. I’d probably just wait to see if they’d drop it without saying anything, and if they pressed for an answer, respond with something like “I totally forgot to get good before I undocked today. I’ll be sure to get good next time prior to undocking.” And if they keep going that’s on them.

13. Boredom, a pizza delivery, or a combination of the two force you to log off during a fleet in your railgun proteus.  Logging back in thirty minutes later to go home, however, you land on a gate to be greeted by a stiletto and gila and, jumping through, you see a small hostile gang that looks like this:

First, I would question my life for going on a rail proteus fleet in late 2017. Then I would notice that they are Dronelands bads, and assume probably at most 3 of those people know how to fly their ships. If the picture is correct, and the two ships with bonused points have aggressed on this side of the gate, I would crash gate feeling pretty good about not getting tackled by anything from that side jumping through. Upon arriving on the other side, I would attempt an align out to good warp location, while dropping jam drones (I think we would have drones) on the Stiletto and spamming the warp button. If I died, I would die quietly and ask later if it’s worth retraining the Proteus sub, ever. If I lived I would probably warp safes until I could log out, and then bring a refit to myself in a blockade runner and refit to cloaky-nulli like I should have done the first time; I hate feeding things to bads.

14. Can you fly a carrier?  Triage?  A dread?  If so, which siege mod?  Do you have a supercarrier or titan?

Cheradenine can Thanatos with T1 fighters, Blaiza can Phoenix strong with T2 siege and T2 XL torpedos, and Shelly can Apostle with T2 triage. I do not have any supers or titans. Additionally, Cher and Shelly are training into T2 gun fit Revelations, and Blaiza will train into a triage. Super and titan plans to follow that next year.

I will have all capital pilots staged with their capitals in the appropriate places upon acceptance to BAT.

15. Have you any FCing experience?  If so, describe it.

I have organized and FC’ed an AT team for the most recent AT qualifiers, run some small gangs, done some very limited stratops, and co-FC’ed our npsi blops group. I actually do not like proper FCing, I find I have much more fun and am more effective when I can fly a ship that acts semi-autonomously in a gang and makes plays that can then be called out for the FC to pivot the gang on to. I find I am effective as a second in charge or as an executive officer who deals with details so the main FC can focus on high level concerns.

16. Do you post on Reddit, Something Awful, Failheap Challenge, EN24, TMZ, Zulu or the like?  If so, link your account for each.

I post on Reddit as https://www.reddit.com/user/Th3_Ch41rm4k3r/  (occasional jimmie rustling within). I do not have any other accounts for Eve related community sites, nor do I post generally on the internet at this time.

17. You will be asked to join us on voice comms for a short interview, during which you will have to read the following text aloud:

"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon."

1)  I'm an American of mixed Eastern European heritage.

2)  Anime was ruined for me by the quality of Ghost in the Shell  (not Solid State Society), Cowboy Bebop, and Trigun (Season 1). I do not currently watch anime nor do I plan on doing so in the near future, except for maybe the GITS prequels.

We are currently working on a way to have a fully self-contained black ops escalation available to us in a 5-8 real person fleet size. Inty alts scouting, mains in roaming dps loki's and tackle/anti-support or ECM Tengus, and then Sin and Widow alts on standby. The T3's would carry both mwd and 100mn refits.

We piloted the roaming T3 portion of the fleet a few days ago in Test space and it went very well.

Cher will finish Capital Energy Turret V on or about December 15th with T2 siege and Amarr dread IV. In cases where my main is needed in a dread at that time, Blaiza has logi V and will have all racial cruiser skills to V in two weeks, she can also fly T2 point hics and soon dictors as well. Shelly will finish dread training to the same specifications  in roughly 3 months as a cross train from triage.
